So I went to Barcelona. I needed to get out away, it was 2 months overdue, but cest la vie.
A summary:
Stayed on La Rambla, the South end, it was basically Barri Gotic. Great place to stay! It's busy with an eclectic mix of people...
A guy from Suffolk broke my camera on our first night in some arty bar called Schilling, on C/ Ferran. There was a really hot girl working the bar, she was German and very androgynous. She made me want to be a lesbian.
I don't remember us getting back to the hotel. I think I cried when I woke up, as I'd spent the night puking up Mojito's and Bombay Potato - into the biddet, not the toilet.
THEN I remember about my camera.
To top it off, Cherie had misplaced her camera. It was a big, fat kick in the teeth, considering the main reason I went to Barcelona was to see the sights and take photograph's! Ended up buying the cheapest camera I could from PC City (City, not world?!) I just so so SO wanted to see the beautiful architecture and take a ton of photos - especially of La Sagrada Familia, which didn't disappoint, I was in awe.
I ended up breaking the Vegan thing, mainly because it was so hard to find anything. Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of places, I'd actually researched them before going and made a list. I guess when you travel with someobody who isn't even Vegetarian, it's hard and she didn't really compromise. I'm straight back to it now I'm home, trying to drown my guilt with soy products.
We ended up going on the topless bus around the City, it was so damn cheesy and touristy, but pretty fun. We did the Red line, which covers the North of the City, first and then the South the next day, but we got distracted by a lovely Mexican called Margherita Blue, it's on C/ De Josep Anslem Clave and I totally recommend it.
Another cool bar is the Travel Bar, on C/ De La Boquieria. It's cheap and every night they do 1euro meals. The staff are multi-national, all travelers themselves. They're super friendly and have lots to talk about. We ended up there every night doing Tequila shots and talked Philosophy with a Lebanese guy one night...
I'm really the sort to walk or use public transport to get around when I'm exploring. It's great to get a little lost in a new City, you end up having a blast. But for a change, the topless bus is cool. And you get these little earphones and a narration of the route. We saw heaps of places, the Olympic Stadium, MNAC, Barca FC, Casa Batllo - which is the Gaudi house. I was stoked on seeing La Sagrada Familia and Guell Parc, which are obviously other Gaudi masterpieces. They truly are that.
I mostly had a good time. I fell in love with the City. It was supposed to be a break to self-reflect and come to terms with a few changes. Break-ups send you a bit crazy. I managed to clear my head, but without going into too much detail, I lost a friend and I gained some principles whilst I was there. I made the decision there to never allow another person to bring me down with their pathetic garbage.
It was a little chilly and breezy, baring in mind it's February. But I am certainly going back with a bigger group of friends in Summer to see it all again and party properly this time :)
I have tonnes of photo's, they're mainly up on my Facebook and Myspace accounts. I don't know what else to do with them.
